Welcome to Year 1! Our teachers are Mrs Pritchard and Mrs Lewis (class 1) and Miss Worsfold (class 2). We are supported by Mrs Buckmaster, Mrs Green, Mrs Tingey, Miss Ellis, Miss Stanley, Miss Pawlik, Mr Webb and Miss Hobson.

In Year 1, we aim to build on the foundations that have been established in the Reception year. We move into the National Curriculum and cover a broad range of subjects, aiming to make lots of cross-curricular links, but still work within a continuous provision framework. Building on the independent learning skills they developed in EYFS, the children are encouraged at "Discover and Do", completing both adult-led tasks and independent "rainbow challenges" which ensure broad coverage of curriculum areas. We are also lucky enough to be able to offer learning opportunities in our dedicated outside environment and shared creative space, as well as in our classrooms.

We prepare our Year 1 children for the Phonics Screening Check in June. This is a gradual process throughout the year using the skills they learn in Read Write Inc. -  a structured English session that all children access daily to develop reading, comprehension, grammar and writing. You can support your child's reading fluency by reading their assigned book bag and e-books on Oxford Owl at home.

All pupils also have a daily maths session and the number skills covered can be supported by using Numbots at home - log in details in reading diaries.
