Welcome to Year 1! We are the Brilliant Bears and the Curious Cats. Our teachers are Mrs Kelly, Miss Bradford and Miss Worsfold. We are supported by Mrs Buckmaster, Mrs Green, Mrs Tingey, Mrs Hudson, Mrs Petsa and Miss Hobson.

In Year 1, we aim to build on the foundations that have been established in the Reception year. We move into the National Curriculum and cover a broad range of subjects, aiming to make lots of cross-curricular links. One of our main focuses is to ensure our children have a happy start to school life by promoting their independence and love of learning. To ensure a smooth transition, a lot of our learning is completed practically with the emphasis on having fun.

We prepare our Year 1 children for the Phonics Screening Check in June. This is a gradual process throughout the year using the skills they learn in Read Write Inc.
