What would it be like to go to school in the Victorian era?

The children in Year 6 travelled back in time today and had a morning at a Victorian school.

The children dressed up as poor Victorian school children and had to participate in a drill and cleanliness inspection before lessons began. Their literacy lesson consisted of learning a poem by heart. This was followed by a history lesson, where they copied down lists of British kings from 1066. In maths they recited their times tables. Punishments in Victorian times were severe and you may have seen children wearing the dunce's cap or worse this morning...
